
Laser TV is a new video display technology using laser optoelectronics to display the images. This technology was starting to show off in 2006 and will probably be commercially available in 2008. And the resolution is fantastic! With Laser TV viewers will be able to watch material reproduced with more than 90% of the colors visible to the human eye! Laser TV is the first rear-projection TV powered by a laser in combination with an HD chip used to generate the images. The Laser TV requires lasers in three distinct colors, red, green and blue. Because there are only red laser diods commercially available the green and blue colors are produced by frequency doubling. Fiber lasers among others can be used for this. With Laser TV black will be all-black and the color gamut will be significantly larger because the lasers are so intense. What is Laser TV
The Laser TV will be big, no huge, and expensive at first. Therefor it will mainly strike at market of 40-inch and above that is now ruled by the Plasma TV. Bur the screens will be so light-weight and the moving images so real-life that LCD will probably also suffer a blow. Laser maker Novalux has predicted that LCD TVs would come to dominate the market below 40-inches, and Laser TV the market above that screen size, thus displacing the Plasma TVs.
