Many experts think that Laser TV Technology will conquer the market one way or the other in the following years. Lasers could easiliy replace the UHP lamps currently used in many projection display devices such as rear projection TV and front projectors. The Laser TV Technology is superior to the UHP lamps because they display twice the amount of colors.
The Laser TV requires lasers in three distinct wavelengths. This wavelengths are called Red, Green and Blue. Red lasers are cheap and common, but Green and Blue lasers are expensive and hard to implement. Therefor the secret behind Laser TV RGB is Frequency Doubling. Frequency Doubling of the Red Laser produces the Green and Blue Lasers! To do this many types of Lasers can be used such as fiber lasers, inter cavity doubled lasers, external cavity doubled lasers, OPSL's (Optically Pumped Semiconductor Lasers) and eVCSEL's. VCSEL or VECSEL is a vertical cavity and is composed by two mirrors. On top of one of them is a diod as the active medium. This technique is currently showing the most promise!
